In-person or online, music lessons are a great way to boost creativity and self-confidence while gaining practical experience in problem-solving, multi-tasking, and discipline. Playing piano is also a fantastic way to express your unique personality!
Piano Lessons
My expertise is in classical music, particularly at the intermediate and advanced levels. I am familiar with both the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada graded systems and am willing to help students through any system they choose. I encourage my students to perform as much as possible through studio recitals, public recitals, and festivals. I am committed to helping students achieve their musical goals.
Generally, I advise the following lesson lengths based on the student’s level:
Lesson Length | Recommended Grade Level |
---|---|
30 minutes | Beginner (Pre-Grade 1) |
45 minutes | Elementary & Early Intermediate (Grades 1 to 4) |
60 minutes | Intermediate & Advanced (Grades 5 and above) |
"I completed my RCM 10 Practical exam under Heather's guidance. I studied with her for one year and it was a privilege to work with her! I felt very prepared for my exam. Heather is very organized, with an emphasis on both the big picture and week-to-week goals. Heather's depth of experience with being a student who has taken exams and as an examiner were invaluable to my exam preparation. My favourite part of working with Heather is the collaborative aspect, as she valued my input when we made interpretive decisions for my pieces. I really appreciated her constant encouragement to try new ways of playing and thinking of the pieces I was working on. Above all, Heather is a kind and understanding teacher who seeks to meet her students where they are at, while also challenging them to be the best musician that they can be."

Theory | Harmony | Music History
Theory and history lessons are an integral component of learning and understanding music. I will help students prepare for any of their co-requisite examinations including theory, harmony, counterpoint, analysis, and music history. Note: these courses are offered online only via Zoom.
"I completed my Theory 6, 7A, 7B, and History 7 with Heather. She worked with my limited timeline to finish these courses. Her schedule breakdowns for each level made it easy to stay on track. She was well-organized for every lesson and made learning the material fun and interesting. Thanks to Heather's teaching, I was very successful on the exams for all four courses, and I highly recommend her!"
